Helping You Plan for Your Future

Sandwell Careers Service provides impartial careers advice and guidance for children in care, previously looked after children and care-experienced young people. We work closely with the Virtual School, carers, parents, schools, colleges and social care professionals to help young people make informed choices about their future.

How We Can Help

Our qualified Careers Advisers can support you with:

  • Exploring career ideas and future goals.
  • Choosing the right options in school and planning for post-16 and post-18 pathways.
  • Finding out about colleges, sixth forms, apprenticeships, training and employment opportunities.
  • Completing applications for education, training and employment.
  • Writing CVs and personal statements.
  • Preparing for interviews and developing employability skills.
  • Accessing Labour Market Information to understand local job opportunities.

Support Throughout Your Journey

We recognise that every young person has different experiences and aspirations. Our advisers provide personalised support and can contribute to Personal Education Plans (PEPs) and transition planning to help ensure that education, training and career goals are considered alongside wider support arrangements.

For young people who may be at risk of becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), we can offer additional support to help them stay engaged and progress into positive destinations.

Support for Care Leavers

As young people move into adulthood, Careers Advisers can help them understand the opportunities and support available, including education and training pathways, apprenticeships, employment opportunities and progression to higher education. We work alongside Leaving Care and other support services to help young people achieve their ambitions.

Our Aim

We want every child in care and care-experienced young person to have the knowledge, confidence and support they need to achieve their goals and move successfully into education, employment or training.
